Day Paddle: Kayaking Big Creek

After my camp on Cinder Lake had to be cut short due to rain, I found myself with some free time on my hands and was contemplating a day paddle somewhere local.  My plans were set after my dad called and asked if I would like to kayak down Big Creek with him using my mothers hybrid kayak.  After some vehicle shuttling we were on the creek, heading from Rowan Mills Conservation Area to Port Royal.

The route is about 8km and takes 3.5 hours to complete including our stop for lunch.  Its common to see lots of wildlife along Big Creek but the outfitter group that launched before us had seemed to scare off anything along the way.  We lazily floated our way down the creek, taking some video along the way and enjoying a shore lunch near the halfway point.

Check out my YouTube video and stay tuned for a “Paddle Routes” post about Big Creek in the future!
